Leobardo is a senior studying Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. This past summer, he had the opportunity to conduct research at Stanford University as part of their SURF program. He wishes to share his experience with his community to help guide their future goals. As president, Leobardo aims to continue fostering a sense of belonging within underrepresented communities on campus and to bring more opportunities to them. Outside his studies, he trains for short and middle-distance triathlons, aspiring to become an Ironman one day.

Maggie is a senior majoring in Industrial & Systems Engineering. This summer, she interned as a Supplier Quality Engineer at Rockwell Automation. Passionate about fostering diversity and inclusivity, Maggie aims to bridge the gap between underrepresented individuals and higher education opportunities. In her free time, she enjoys working out, spending time with family and friends, as well as baking. As Vice President of Internal Relations, she hopes to increase SHPE’s visibility on campus and support the professional development of its members.

Giovanni is a senior majoring in Mechanical Engineering. He is a Madison local, born and raised. He is a detail-oriented individual who in his free time enjoys playing his guitar, writing poetry, and playing soccer. As the vice president of external affairs, his goals are to increase the organization’s reach and influence through interactions with leaders in the public. As well as develop and implement strategies for the organization that best support the interests of the board.

Enrique is a senior studying Chemical Engineering. Previously, he has held the roles of Secretary and Newsletter Chair on the SHPE E-board. As treasurer for the 2024-2025 year, he hopes to orient the chapter to a healthy position to continue putting on enriching programming. Outside his studies, he plays classical and mariachi music on the violin and is very passionate about his work experiences at Cargill.

Ren is a senior studying Mechanical Engineering. This past summer she completed a design internship at Rockwell Automation in their Safety, Sensing and Industrial Components unit. Ren joined SHPE in Fall 2022 and is excited to help better organize SHPE while acting as secretary. Outside of SHPE, Ren works for the Engineering Student Center. In her free time she plays piano and enjoys baking.

Carmen is a senior studying Material Science and Engineering with an interest in polymers and sustainability. She is currently working in the Prabhakar research group studying the microbial degradation of polymer-based composites. Carmen joined SHPE in the fall of 2023 and enjoys baking, drawing, and figure skating.

Emilio is a senior from Milwaukee, WI studying Computer Engineering and Computer Science. This past summer he interned at Oak Street Health as a Test Engineer in their Quality Assurance team. His goals as the Web Chair are to keep everyone connected and up to date by updating SHPE’s websites and making sure that events are on the online calendars. He became a board member Fall 2022 and outside of school he is interested in music, tech, and sports.

Dayanara is a sophomore majoring in Electrical Engineering. As the Social Media Chair for SHPE, she is dedicated to expanding the organization’s social media presence to connect with both current and future generations of Hispanic engineers at UW. In addition to her role with SHPE, Dayanara works with the Center for Educational Opportunity (CeO), where she mentors first-generation, low-income, and underrepresented freshmen. Originally from Milwaukee, she likes all things Spider-Man, flowers, and the color green, and is in the process of launching a photography business.

Newsletter Chair

Maritza is a sophomore majoring in Computer Engineering. As Newsletter chair, she aims to keep current and future SHPE members up to date with our events and opportunities, ensuring that resources are shared to fellow Hispanic engineers. Outside of SHPE she works for Youth2Youth, educating about substance abuse prevention. She also enjoys spending time with her dog, crocheting, and making jewelry.

Lezly is a junior majoring in Computer Engineering. As Outreach chair, she aims to plan events for our Puentes A STEM outreach program along with working with corporate partners interested in outreach and planning these events themselves. In her free time, she enjoys crocheting with her grandma, spending time with her cat Spooky, and listening to true crime podcasts.

Arturo is a senior majoring in Chemical Engineering and a PEOPLE Scholar. As Corporate Relations Chair he hopes he can bring unique professional opportunities to underrepresented students by improving SHPE’s corporate partner outreach. Outside of his studies he enjoys producing music, playing and watching soccer, and spending time with family.

Paulina is a junior studying environmental engineering. During the Fall 2024 semester, she studied abroad at the University of Limerick, Ireland. As Recruitment and Retention Chair, Paulina is dedicated to growing and strengthening our SHPE familia by fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for all members. Outside of SHPE, she enjoys dancing and teaching ballet folklorico.
